We’re happy to have had amazing interns this fall (and always), but before letting Aidan and Fleur depart and enjoy the holidays, we asked them to share the three most relevant takeaways from their internship experience at KLC and what they will remember from their time with us.

What are the most relevant skills you have gained during your time at KLC?

Aidan: Through the Kaiser Lachance internship program I have learned how to adjust my skill set to enhance different elements of media relations for various Canadian organizations. Learning how to pivot between different sectors’ communication styles and learning how to adjust to ever changing client needs will be skills I will carry with me throughout my career.

Fleur: It has been a rewarding challenge for me to write articles or detailed summaries in English, not being a native English speaker. I feel like I am learning every day, mainly because of the great feedback I receive from my colleagues at KLC. I still can’t write the way I do in Dutch, which is often frustrating, but my time at Kaiser Lachance has definitely contributed to better my overall language skills.

What are you enjoying the most?

Aidan: I am enjoying interacting with media contacts through media training and working on some amazing campaigns such as ADP Canada’s HR Appreciation Contest. These opportunities have provided me with the opportunity to learn from my mentors at Kaiser Lachance in different work environments and helped me enhance the versatility of my skills by exposing me to a wide variety of public relations tasks.

Fleur: Actually, I have learned a lot about Canadian companies and their place in the national economy. It has been interesting to get a behind-the-scenes look into the different communication strategies they have and the important role PR plays in getting attention from media. It has been great being a part of an amazing team that can really make a difference when it comes to communications.

What advice do you have for future interns at KLC?

Aidan: Be a sponge! The team at KLC is full of knowledge. Try to absorb as much information during your time at the agency as you can! Take advantage of the learning opportunities provided and do not be afraid to take the initiative to ask about projects you are interested in.

Fleur: Because you’re working for different clients and different client teams, you need to be able to multi-task and prioritize. Sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming when there are several requests due at the same time, but -as we PR professionals know best- keep communicating and updating your colleagues during the process!
