What do you love the most about PR?
I love that PR offers a fast-paced and rewarding environment with endless opportunities to work alongside an array of diverse clients and industries. I love that I’m constantly challenging my knowledge and creativity to produce the best stories for an organization. With no two days being the same, the consistent change and variety of opportunities in PR attracted me to the industry – as I’m always excited to learn something new and push my creative boundaries.
Tell us about the moment you decided you wanted to be in PR?
For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to pursue a career in an industry where I could help in promoting social good and make a positive difference. As a student who didn’t necessarily excel in Math, Science or Visual Arts courses, I was able to turn to writing. It was always something I have enjoyed doing and was able to think creatively in a variety of ways. In bundling up all my academic experiences with my personality traits, I was realized that pursuing a career in PR will allow me to expand on my passions of writing, meeting new people and being a forever-learner.
What might people be surprised to learn about you?
Something that people may be surprised to learn about me is that I have played rugby for 10 years. For almost half my life I have enjoyed playing and excelling at this sport and don’t see myself hanging up my cleats anytime soon! I played throughout high school, a few years in university and also joined a rugby club team that I have been a part of for the last 8 years.
What are you looking forward to in your new role at K&P?
As a recent graduate from the Humber College Public Relations postgraduate program, I’m looking forward to furthering my academic education with real-world PR experience in learning from the insightful and talented team at K&P. I’m eager to take on every opportunity head-on and challenge my boundaries in creative thinking and writing to further my skills as a PR practitioner.
Who inspires you?
My mom. She immigrated from Germany to Canada when she was only 21 years old with limited funds and minimal knowledge of the English language. She worked hard to put herself through dental hygiene school, which was conducted in English, and still managed to graduate with honours. Her natural perseverance and positive outlook on life continues to inspire me every day and it has shaped me into the person that I am today; a driven, hard-working woman that always finds the positive in any situation.
What do you love the most about Toronto?
For my whole life, I have called Scarborough home. Living close to the downtown core of Toronto I can access so many small businesses and exciting events while also being far enough from it to experience a slower lifestyle with more greenery and beautiful scenery such as the Scarborough Bluffs. With that being said, the thing I love most about Toronto is being immersed in the vast cultural diversity of people, art and businesses that make up Toronto’s unique landscape.
What does your ideal Saturday look like?
My ideal Saturday looks like waking up early, grabbing my dog and venturing out of Toronto to hike a forested trail! Any way that I could disconnect from technology and enjoy the outdoors, is an ideal Saturday for me.
What’s the last book you read?
The last book I read was Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. A bit of a slow read at first, but then the story and characters just suck you in and you won’t want to put the book down! A book I’m currently reading is The Midnight Library.
Where would your dream trip take you?
My dream trip would take me all over the world. There are so many cultures, foods and breathtaking architecture that I dream about experiencing one day.
Welcome, Mia! We are loving getting to know you and we can’t wait to see how far your drive and determination will take you on our K&P team!
