Mohammad’s aha! moment: creativity AND professional fulfillment!

February 25, 2021

Mohammad Raza joined our team in mid-January as one of our newest account coordinators. We asked him a few questions to get to know him better. His story of the moment he chose to pursue a career in PR is amazing!

What do you love the most about PR?

I chase opportunities to be creative and challenge myself as often as I can, and no field offers as much diversity and creativity in the work I’m able to pursue as PR. I can start every week knowing that I don’t know what lies ahead of me and that I’m going to be tested, but that also means I’m going to grow in ways that I can’t plan for. It makes my work goals as satisfying to accomplish as any of my personal goals!

Tell us about the moment you decided you wanted to be in PR?

I was nearing the end of my undergraduate degree and working concurrently as an auditor and front desk manager at a hotel during the night shift. I remember feeling frustrated that I couldn’t find any careers that spoke to me because I didn’t just want to do a ‘job’. I remember that night vividly because I called my best friend at 2:30 in the morning and asked him to help me figure this thing out once and for all. We spent the next two hours perusing every option we could think of before he asked “Why haven’t you looked at colleges?”. It was one of those aha! moments. It didn’t take ten minutes after that to find a PR program and to realize that everything the career offered was everything I was looking for. The rest, as they say, is history.

What has been your proudest career moment to date?

While I was in my PR program at school we were given an option to plan and execute an event for a non-profit of our choice and I was able to choose ‘Story Planet’ for my team. They’re a non-profit based in Toronto that supports underfunded schools and hosts a variety of special creative events to develop curiosity and creativity in students. We hosted an event with them called “Story Night.”  My peers and I invited our school team and other guests to develop their own stories and presented them to the audience along with other fun games. Even though I’ve had the privilege to work on projects with much larger scope since starting my career, the opportunity to help fund this amazing initiative and inspire creativity in others was one of the most memorable professional experiences I’ve ever had.

What are you looking forward to in your new role at K&P?

The team at K&P is filled with extraordinary leaders and mentors at every level. Having worked in  different sectors prior to joining the team, the most important thing I learned is that you need to be in the right environment and with the right group of people who are committed to your growth and success.. I feel the team is extremely unique even within the field of PR and I look forward to giving back as much as I can, as well as learning from these amazing professionals.

We’re thrilled to have you Mohammad and look forward to helping your enthusiasm and creativity continue to shine on all the exciting projects we have on the radar.
