While summer is coming to an end and bringing cooler temperatures, KLC is excited to extend a warm welcome to our new fall interns!
This month, Emily Ellis and Chris Allen joined our growing team. As anyone who has ever worked at an agency can attest, the ability to multi-task is a crucial skill. So while Emily and Chris were very busy learning about our clients, we decided to also pepper them with questions to get to know them better.
This week, you get to “read up” on Emily, who joins us from Humber College’s PR postgraduate certificate.
What do you love most about PR?s
What I love most about PR is the opportunity to build relationships with people. I think the ability to communicate with others and build strong relationships is an important quality to have in both a personal and professional atmosphere. I also love reading and writing, which is a huge part of working in PR.
When did you decide PR was for you?
When I started university, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I applied for humanities because I loved to write. English was always my favorite subject in school, so I thought I would continue down that path while also learning about my minor, commerce. Once I entered my communications class and was introduced to PR, I was very interested, and I realized PR was a mix between English and my other interest, business. I continued to take classes in PR and ended up pursuing it in my postgrad.
What does your ideal Saturday look like?
My ideal Saturday is trying to be as disconnected as possible, away from computers and social media. I love indulging in those elements throughout the week, but I see my weekends as times to catch up with friends and family and live more in the moment. This might include going to dinner with friends, hiking, reading or exploring new things. I try to relax as much as possible and do things I wouldn’t normally be able to do throughout the week.
What the latest book you’ve read?
The latest book I’ve read is “The Silent Patient” which was an amazing and captivating read. I love mystery and crime-based books, both fictional and non-fictional, as they are exciting and easy to read. I’m often sucked into the story, especially if there are twists or a complex story line. I would highly recommend it to someone looking for a good fictional novel.
As we begin to transition back to the office, we’re excited for Emily to discover and contribute to our “little library” (psst – it’s over by Joyce’s desk) and support our clients with her strong writing skills.
